Vad?
Att vara fadder åt en utbytesstudent betyder att du, tillsammans med några andra faddrar, möter upp och hjälper utbytesstudenter att hitta rätt. Du hjälper dem även komma in i den svenska kulturen och Karlstads universitet.
När?
I augusti, veckan innan studierna och nollningen drar igång på universitetet, kommer utbytesstudenterna hit och det är då det är som mest att göra och även obligatoriskt att vara med och hjälpa till. Sedan får man vara med så mycket man vill och känner för under resten av terminen. Men det är viktigt att se till så att de utbytesstudenter du är ansvarig för, får den hjälp de behöver.
Hur?
Den första veckan under augusti blir din uppgift att möta upp studenterna när de kommer hit. I de allra flesta fall möter du upp dem där de ska bo, visar dem var de ska bo, var de kan handla mat etc. Sedan gäller det att guida dem under de första dagarna, kanske ta med dem till IKEA, skaffa busskort, mobilkort etc. Under denna vecka anordnar även vi i ISAK och universitetet orienteringsaktiviteter och andra sociala tillställningar som alla är välkomna till! Vi kommer ha faddermöten både den här terminen och innan det dra igång i höst där all information kommer gås igenom, så kom på dem så blir allting lättare båda för oss och för er!

What?
To be ahost means that you, together with a few other hosts, meet up and help new exchange students. YOu will also help them to adapt to the Swedish culture and the life at Karlstad University.
When?
In August, the week before the studies (and the freshman hazing for the Swedish students) begin, the exchange students and the new master students arrive. This is when it’s mandatory that you participate as host. After that it’s up to you how much you want to participate and involve yourself. But it’s really important that your students can get the help they need from you even after this week.
How?
Before the students arrive they might e-mail you with questions (you will send out an e-mail to them with contact info and a presentation so they can get to know you before their arrival). The questions are usually not very difficult to answer, and you can always turn to the International Office if you don’t know the answer. It will be your task to meet up with the students as they arrive (usually Saturday-Monday). In most cases you will meet them at a key hand-out spot (usually Rumpan Bar) and then you will show them to their accomodation and give them some basic information like where to buy food and how to get to the university. After that you can do what you find best, a suggestion is to go to IKEA with the students and help them buy SIM cards and bus cards. During the first week (which usually begins on the Tuesday as the students arrive sat-mon), the university and ISAK will arrange fun and useful activities for the newcomers, and for their hosts! There will be host meetings in the spirng and before they arrive, where you can get more detailed information.
